CBF accomplishes its mission by providing education, reuse strategies, project coordination, and technical support. CBF provides technical assistance to communities interested in redevelopment, renovation, and adaptive reuse.

Technical Support

CBF Can:

  • Loan an environmental coordinator to a project
  • Evaluate opportunities to reposition community assets
  • Identify redevelopment strategies
  • Act as an intergovernmental liaison between federal, state and local levels of government
  • Evaluate public-private partnering opportunities

Gap Financing Services

Grant and Loan Fund Assistance

CBF can assist in identifying relevant grants and financing options and provide assistance to parties applying for environmental assessment and cleanup loans and grants.

Enterprise Zone Tax Credits

CBF can provide state tax credits for property donations and can coordinate fundraising efforts.

Environmental Due Diligence Grants

A competitive program that provides Phase I Environmental Assessment to facilitate real estate transactions and as a next step to additional funding.

Information Services

Education, Workshops & Conferences

CBF brings land use and environmental education to communities and hosts a statewide Colorado Brownfields Conference. CBF also maintains a growing on-line library of self-help resources and links including information on liability management tools.

Local Redevelopment Training

Colorado Brownfields Foundation offers an opportunity for agencies and organizations to provide training to their staff, government representatives, and community stakeholders tailored to meet the specific needs of its community. 

Set up in menu-based modules, this training program is a time-efficient approach that covers identifying environmental conditions, introduces concepts on liability issues, and includes case studies applicable to your community. This training can be customized to meet your time need, as short as a two-hour overview to as long as a full-day curriculum. Training Menu and Modules.

Special Research Projects

Policy and site-specific research such as reuse analysis and economic and fiscal impact studies.

Title Transfer Services

CBF may take title to affected properties, implement cleanup, and deliver clean property for reuse.

Area-Wide Redevelopment Opportunity Planning

CBF can provide assessment services to map community assets, evaluate regional dynamics, and conduct an inventory of reuse and redevelopment opportunities.  Results are integrated into an opportunity analysis and asset revitalization strategy specific to that communtiy.

Headwaters Initiative

CBF can provide technical assistance to build local capacity in mountain and mining impacted communities regarding transaction strategies, environmental due diligence, and gap funding.  In cleanup phases, CBF can provide assistance with contractor procurement, advocacy, regulatory liaisons,  and coordination through the cleanup process.

Renewable Energy Initiative

CBF provides due diligence and coordination to support the reuse of brownfields sites as renewable energy sites.
