Colorado Brownfields Foundation is Expanding: The Future of Our Communities
Littleton, CO (October 27, 2008) – Already serving Colorado's brownfields communities for the past five years, Colorado Brownfields Foundation is expanding to form the Community Brownfields Foundation.
Under this new program, Colorado Brownfields Foundation can offer the same geographically-based assistance and outreach that has successfully served Colorado's brownfields communities, to the entire Rocky Mountain and Great Plains region.
The Community Brownfields Foundation program is funded by a U.S. EPA Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) grant. CBF will receive $100,000 in annual funding for up to five years and will work in collaboration with the San Francisco based Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR), a non profit focused on creating sustainable communities. CCLR will provide assistance throughout the Northwest.
"The TAB grant will allow us to increase the breadth of our work. We can expand the public's understanding and involvement in brownfields cleanup and revitalization," says Jesse Silverstein, Executive Director of Colorado Brownfields Foundation.
CBF and CCLR will provide assistance to brownfields communities in the following four formats:
A web and phone based Resource Center will provide pertinent information to brownfields stakeholders including; professional contact information, related links, case studies, and publications.
Tailor-made trainings will provide communities with the education and specific tools necessary to identify and address brownfield challenges and redevelopment solutions.
Assist communities in identifying and inventorying redevelopment opportunities while providing site reuse strategies and funding leads.
Provide targeted policy and program outreach to further local revitalization efforts and assist communities for which the need for resources exceeds the current levels available.
The TAB grant will increase the support of brownfields efforts. "By expanding our outreach to surrounding states, CBF can promote redevelopment and community involvement that is vital to the economic strength of local communities," says Silverstein.
Colorado Brownfields Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Colorado nonprofit organization dedicated to removing environmental obstacles to economic and community development. CBF partners with communities, local governments, other non profits, and commercial enterprises to help reuse and redevelop brownfields sites.
