Colorado Brownfields Foundation Recipient of Phoenix Award

Littleton, CO (March 5, 2010) – The Colorado Brownfields Foundation (CBF) was recently awarded the highly coveted Phoenix Award for its work on the Idalia Court Landfill in Aurora, Colorado. The Phoenix Award is recognized as the premier award of excellence in Brownfield redevelopment and revitalization. Colorado Brownfields Foundation, with its development partner Community Builders, Inc., successfully cleaned and redeveloped a park site and completed land development for a 54 unit affordable-priced townhome project.

The Idalia Court Landfill Redevelopment Project is worthy of this national recognition because of the financial partnerships combining efforts from public, private and nonprofit organizations. The involvement of a reputable nonprofit corporation helped navigate unknown funding avenues and prepare the financial bundling needed to move forward.

Award winners were selected from among the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ten regions representing exemplary revitalization projects with special community impact. The award was presented during the Brownfields 2009 Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 16-18, 2009, with 5,000 participants.

Colorado Brownfields Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Colorado nonprofit organization dedicated to removing environmental obstacles to economic and community development. CBF partners with communities, local governments, other non profits, and commercial enterprises to help reuse and redevelop brownfields sites.
