CBF Meth Lab Cleanup to Make Way for New Housing
Littleton, CO (September 22, 2010) – Colorado Brownfields Foundation (CBF) has completed the cleanup phase of a meth lab in Northglenn, Colorado. The property was the site of a former meth operation, which police discovered and closed down more than two years ago. The property remained vacant and untended until its recent foreclosure by Chase Bank.
CBF was made aware of the property’s contamination issues by the Northglenn and Adams County Housing Authorities and was asked to evaluate options available to clean up and redevelop this property. In June of this year, Chase Bank donated the property to CBF, which allowed the assessment and cleanup procedures to begin in earnest.
By mid-summer, CBF crafted a partnership with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) who granted cleanup assistance. Gobbell Hays Partners, Inc. and LVI Environmental Services, Inc., were contracted to manage the cleanup and remediation phase of the project, which involved the removal of asbestos and meth contamination. Redevelopment will be accomplished by Community Builders (a local home builder), to rebuild a new, modern, energy-efficient home on the site as market-rate affordable housing.
Moving at a fast pace, the project’s cleanup was completed on September 7. Designs are ready and the new home construction by Community Builders, Inc., began September 17, and will include energy-efficiencies and upgrades relative to what previously existed on the site. It is anticipated that this new home will be available for sale and occupancy in late October.
